Huge game by Swanson boosts Wadena-Deer Creek over Morris/Benson Area, 12-8

The Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines' Mitchell Swanson had a big offensive game, scoring four goals and contributing five assists in his team's 12-8 win over the Morris/Benson Area Storm.

Swanson's first goal came one second1 seconds into the second period. He then added goals at 3:32 into the second, at 16:46 into the second, and at 17 seconds into the third.

Morris/Benson Area fell victim to a deadly Wadena-Deer Creek power play, which ripped the Storm for four goals.

The Wolverines' goal total was higher than their season average. Wadena-Deer Creek averages 5.0 goals per game. The Wolverines got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed four goals during the game.

Wadena-Deer Creek additionally got points from Christian Berg, who also had three goals and three assists, Bridger Pettit, who also registered two goals and four assists, and Dylan Phillips, who also tallied one goal and two assists. Wadena-Deer Creek also got a goal from Otto Asp as well. Other players who recorded assists for Wadena-Deer Creek were Jake Krause, who had three and Mike Behl, Mike Paavola, and Shane Motschenbacher, who each chipped in one.

Morris/Benson Area made Wolverines' goaltenders to work all game long, taking 36 shots and forcing 28 saves. Wesley Janson made 24 stops and Cory McManigle made four. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

The Storm were led by Jordan Staples, who racked up one goal and four assists. Staples scored 5:33 into the third period to make the score 10-7 Wadena-Deer Creek. Morris/Benson Area also got points from Andrew Rentz, who also had one goal and one assist, Tanner Picht, who also registered one goal and two assists, and Taner Gimberlin, who also tallied one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Morris/Benson Area included Darion Helberg, who had one and Mac Beyer, who had three.

Wadena-Deer Creek incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Kyle Kennedy recorded 17 saves for Morris/Benson Area. The Storm incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
