The Orono Spartans and the Waconia Wildcats were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Orono made the most of its opportunities and won, 3-2.

Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Silas Cleveland's goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker.

The Spartans were led by Cleveland, who tallied one goal. Cleveland scored 14:28 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Orono. Jared Gherardi provided the assist.

Orono forced Waconia goalie Nathan Kovach to work between the pipes, taking 47 shots.

Orono also got points from Gherardi, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Orono also got a goal from Trevor Knight as well. More assists for Orono came via Jake Flemmer, Ellis Noerenberg, and Danny Willson, who contributed one a piece.

Waconia was helped by Justin Reinke, who finished with one goal. Reinke scored 11:15 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Waconia. Tanner Riebel assisted on the tally. Waconia additionally got points from Riebel, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Waconia were Alex Tasson and Ryan Mattson, who each chipped in one.

Orono's Jon Flakne stopped 32 shots out of the 34 that he faced. The Spartans incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Nathan Kovach made 44 saves for the Wildcats on 47 shots. Waconia incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
