Waconia takes care of Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato early, wins 8-1Waconia Ice Arena Thu, Jan 10, 2013 The Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato Dragons fell behind early, and the Waconia Wildcats kept piling on the points on the way to an 8-1 victory. Tanner Riebel had two goals and one assist to lead Waconia. Riebel scored the first of his two goals at 4:04 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Waconia. Ben Kullman picked up the assist. Riebel's next tally made the score 2-0 Waconia with 13:41 left in the first period. Kullman provided the assist. Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato was stymied by the Wildcats netminder Nathan Kovach, who stopped 28 shots during the victory. Kovach managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 3.92 prior to the game. Waconia stifled the Dragons' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Wildcats' offense rang up 46 shots on Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato's net. Waconia outdid its season average for goals scored. The Wildcats average 3.5 goals per game. Waconia additionally got points from Kullman, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Blaine Wilsey also scored for Waconia. More assists for Waconia came via Kevin Kittleson, Ryan Mattson, Alec Bohman, and Sam Schiffman, who each chipped in one and Justin Reinke and Joe Benson, who contributed two a piece. The Dragons put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Waconia to score on any of its three power plays. Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato was held below its usual level of production. The Dragons put an average of 3.4 pucks into the net per game. The Wildcats incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Braeden Wahl rejected 38 shots on goal for Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato. The Dragons incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
