Marooney leads Holy Family Catholic over Waconia, 7-2

Joey Marooney was all over the ice for the Holy Family Catholic Fire, as he tallied one goal and three assists in Holy Family Catholic's 7-2 win over the Waconia Wildcats.

Marooney beat Nathan Kovach with a shot 7:33 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Holy Family Catholic. Sam Stenson assisted on the tally. Marooney dished an assist on Garret Riebling's goal that made the score 2-0 Holy Family Catholic at 8:07 into the first period. He then added assists on Shane Gersich's goal at 12:07 into the third and on Gersich's goal at 13:46 into the third.

Waconia's power play was ineffective against the Fire's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Holy Family Catholic excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. The Fire's goal total was higher than their season average. This season, Holy Family Catholic averages 4.6 goals per contest. With 47 shots on target during the contest, the Fire exceeded the 3.1 shots they average per game this year. Holy Family Catholic could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 16 minutes in penalties during the game.

Holy Family Catholic additionally got points from Riebling, who also registered one goal and one assist, Stenson, who also racked up one goal and two assists, Gersich, who also registered three goals and two assists to lead the team in points, and Ryan Swanson, who also finished with one goal and one assist. In addition, Holy Family Catholic received assists from Jonh Peterson, who had two and Matt Runyon, Billy Bigham, and Will Garin, who each chipped in one.

The Wildcats could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 14 minutes in penalties during the game.

Waconia was helped by Alex Tasson, who tallied one goal. Tasson scored 16:21 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Holy Family Catholic. Justin Reinke picked up the assist. Waconia also got a goal from Tanner Riebel as well. Other players who recorded assists for Waconia were Jeff Balow, who had one.

The Fire's Dayton Rassmussen stopped 24 shots out of the 26 that he faced. Holy Family Catholic registered one goal on eight power play opportunities. Nathan Kovach made 40 saves for the Wildcats on 47 shots.
