St. Paul Johnson falls to Providence Academy in overtime, 4-3 (OT)PSI Internal Staff Thu, Feb 14, 2013 The Providence Academy Lions' Ryan Tapani scored 7:30 into overtime to beat the St. Paul Johnson Governors, 4-3 (OT). Providence Academy came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Lions trailed 2-0 after a power play goal by St. Paul Johnson's Matthew Blees at six seconds in the first period. Providence Academy knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Tapani at 7:20 in the third period. Tapani had a great game for the Lions, netting four goals. Tapani got on the scoresheet 11:59 into the first period. He then added goals at 12:17 into the first. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with four goals. Providence Academy's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Lions finished with 14 penalty minutes. In addition, Providence Academy received assists from Ryan Muurphy, who had one, Jake Braun, who had two, and Michael Cossette, who had three. The Governors stifled Providence Academy's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. St. Paul Johnson kept the Lions' goalie busy throughout the game, and Nick Pruden made 31 saves on 34 shots. Matt Ranum also scored for St. Paul Johnson. Other players who recorded assists for St. Paul Johnson were Taylor Bennett, who had one and Thomas Murphy, who had two. Providence Academy registered zero goals on five power play opportunities. Samuel Moberg recorded 22 saves for the Governors. St. Paul Johnson incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
