Herdt's hat trick boosts Moorhead over St. Cloud Tech, 4-1National Hockey Center Tue, Feb 12, 2013 A hat trick by Aaron Herdt was the highlight in Spuds' 4-1 win against the St. Cloud Tech Tigers. Herdt got on the scoresheet 16 seconds into the first period. He then added goals at 7:17 into the first and at 16:09 into the third.The Moorhead Spuds were led by goalie Jacob Dittmer, who finished with 29 saves while allowing one goal. Dittmer managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 3.23 prior to the game. With 32 shots on target during the contest, Moorhead exceeded the 1.1 shot it averages per game this year. Moorhead additionally got points from Thomas Carey, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Moorhead were Nicholas Uglem, who had three and Will Borgen and John OConnor, who each chipped in one. St. Cloud Tech excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Tigers' offense operated below they season average. St. Cloud Tech averages 3.4 goals per game. The Tigers were led by Matt Brettingen, who scored the team's only goal. Brettingen scored on the power play one second1 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-1 Moorhead. Riley Bates assisted on the tally. The Spuds incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Austin Althaus recorded 28 saves for St. Cloud Tech. The Tigers incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
