Holy Family Catholic squeaks by St. Cloud Cathedral, 5-3

The Holy Family Catholic Fire and the St. Cloud Cathedral Crusaders were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Holy Family Catholic made the most of its opportunities and won, 5-3.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Ryan Swanson at 10:31 of the third period.

In the losing effort, St. Cloud Cathedral was sparked by Tommy Hall, who racked up two goals. Hall scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 16:30 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Holy Family Catholic. The Crusaders earned a power play opportunity when Swanson was put in the box for interference. Dan Bailey picked up the assist. Hall's next tally on the power play made the score 2-2 with 15:54 left in the third period.

The Fire were led by Swanson, who grabbed one goal.

Holy Family Catholic kept St. Cloud Cathedral's goalie busy throughout the game, and Connor Amundson made 34 saves on 39 shots.

Holy Family Catholic also got points from Garret Riebling, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Jonh Peterson, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Joey Marooney, who also had one goal and one assist. Holy Family Catholic also got a goal from Jake Dickison as well. In addition, Holy Family Catholic received assists from Shane Gersich, who had two and Matt Runyon, Dylan Woolf, Sam Stenson, Max Mork, and James Sutton, who each chipped in one.

The Crusaders' normally stingy defense allowed more goals than usual. St. Cloud Cathedral averages 2.5 goals allowed per game.

Peter Spethmann also scored for St. Cloud Cathedral. More assists for St. Cloud Cathedral came via Austin Swingle, who had one.

Derek LaCombe rejected 27 shots on goal for the Fire. Holy Family Catholic incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Crusaders incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
