Hammer's hat trick boosts St. Cloud Cathedral over Becker-Big Lake, 12-1

The Becker-Big Lake Eagles could not stop the St. Cloud Cathedral Crusaders' Will Hammer, who tallied a hat trick in a 12-1 win.

Hammer's first goal came 5:28 into the first period. He then added goals at 10:53 into the first and at 9:56 into the third.

St. Cloud Cathedral managed to stay out of the box better than usual, racking up one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Crusaders ended up below its season average of 15.0 penalty minutes per game. St. Cloud Cathedral's offense rang up 52 shots on Becker-Big Lake's net. The Crusaders bested their season scoring average. St. Cloud Cathedral averages 4.5 goals per game. The Crusaders cashed in on power play opportunities, scoring three goals on three chances. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with three goals.

St. Cloud Cathedral additionally got points from Austin Poganski, who also tallied three goals and four assists to lead the team in points, Tommy Hall, who also had two goals and two assists, and Matt Fritz, who also registered one goal and one assist. Mitchell Fritz also scored for St. Cloud Cathedral. More assists for St. Cloud Cathedral came via Trevor Cornelius, who had two and Dan Bailey and Connor Amundson, who each chipped in one.

The Eagles could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Becker-Big Lake averages 4.3 goals per game. The Eagles did not challenge the opposing netminder, only getting 14 shots on net to force 13 saves.

Becker-Big Lake was led by John Messman, who scored the team's only goal. Messman scored 5:10 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Elliott Darsow assisted on the tally.

St. Cloud Cathedral's Zach Fritz stopped 13 shots out of the 14 that he faced. Ethan Huber recorded 40 saves for the Eagles. Becker-Big Lake incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors and had no power play opportunities.
