St. Cloud Tech beats St. Cloud Apollo 4-3 after comeback scareSt. Cloud MAC Fri, Dec 28, 2012 The St. Cloud Apollo Eagles tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the St. Cloud Tech Tigers held on for a 4-3 victory. St. Cloud Tech took a 4-2 lead during the third period, only to have St. Cloud Apollo storm back on a Jared Christen goal 15:43 into the third period to pull to one goal down. The Tigers got the win with help from a great game by Tanner Skaja, who had one goal and two assists. Skaja scored on the power play 13:28 into the first period to make the score 2-1 St. Cloud Apollo. St. Cloud Tech had gained a power play chance when Jordan Keller was whistled for interference. Davis Reinholz assisted on the tally. The Tigers could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 16 minutes in penalties during the game. St. Cloud Tech also got points from Matt Brettingen, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Reinholz, who also registered one goal and one assist. St. Cloud Tech also got a goal from Jake Samuelson as well. Other players who recorded assists for St. Cloud Tech were Joe Setrum, Riley Bates, and Joey Mendel, who each chipped in one. The Eagles forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and one major for 19 minutes in penalty time. St. Cloud Apollo had been averaging 11.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Eagles kept St. Cloud Tech's goalie busy throughout the game, and Austin Althaus made 31 saves on 34 shots. St. Cloud Apollo was helped by Josh Kenney, who finished with one goal. Kenney scored 11:56 into the first period to make the score 2-0 St. Cloud Apollo. Jason Omann picked up the assist. St. Cloud Apollo additionally got points from Christen, who also had one goal and one assist and Omann, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for St. Cloud Apollo came via Erik Jarosch, Grady Ewing, and Paul Kenney, who contributed one a piece. The Tigers registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Nick Althaus made 22 saves for the Eagles on 26 shots. St. Cloud Apollo registered one goal on three power play opportunities.
