St. Cloud Apollo falls to Brainerd in overtime, 4-3 (OT)

The Brainerd Warriors' Adam Fischer scored 2:52 into overtime to beat the St. Cloud Apollo Eagles, 4-3 (OT).

Brainerd came back from a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Warriors fell behind 3-0 after a power play goal by St. Cloud Apollo's Jared Christen at 12:23 in the second period. Brainerd knotted things up at 3-3 on a power play goal by Logan Rivard at 16:21 in the third period.

Fischer had a great game for the Warriors, netting two goals.

Brainerd's offense rang up 35 shots on the Eagles' net. The Warriors were hit hard by penalties in the contest, and totaled six minors and one major for 17 minutes in penalty time.

Brainerd also got points from Cole Smith, who also tallied one goal and one assist. In addition, Brainerd received assists from Jacob Ellingson, who had two and Isaac Johnson and Christopher Pohlkamp, who each chipped in one.

St. Cloud Apollo was held below its usual level of production. The Eagles average 5.5 goals per game. St. Cloud Apollo kept Brainerd's goalie busy throughout the game, and Kyle Helmberger made 36 saves on 39 shots. The Eagles struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 16 penalty minutes for six opposing power plays.

St. Cloud Apollo was helped by Brandon Bloch, who registered one goal. Bloch scored 41 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Cloud Apollo. Dallas Haugen assisted on the tally. Other players who recorded assists for St. Cloud Apollo were Jason Omann and Paul Kenney, who contributed one a piece.

Nick Althaus recorded 31 saves for the Eagles. St. Cloud Apollo registered one goal on seven power play opportunities.
