St. Paul Academy/Mounds Park Acad outlasts Blake School, 3-2

The St. Paul Academy/Mounds Park Acad Spartans and the Blake School Bears were evenly matched throughout their contest, but St. Paul Academy/Mounds Park Acad made the most of its opportunities and won, 3-2.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Jake Westfield's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Peter Wood had a great game for the Spartans, netting two goals. Wood's tallies came on the power play at 2:20 into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Paul Academy/Mounds Park Acad and 8:28 into the first to make the score 2-0 St. Paul Academy/Mounds Park Acad.

St. Paul Academy/Mounds Park Acad managed to stay out of the box better than usual, tallying one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Spartans finished below its season average of 8.0 penalty minutes per game. St. Paul Academy/Mounds Park Acad forced Blake School goalie Joe Santelli to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

St. Paul Academy/Mounds Park Acad also got points from Westfield, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, St. Paul Academy/Mounds Park Acad received assists from Drew Blackmum and Jared Mickelson, who contributed one a piece.

The Spartans were unable to stop the Bears from sending pucks towards the net, and Blake School eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

The Bears were helped by Charlie Schuster, who had one goal. Schuster scored 15:50 into the first period to make the score 2-1 St. Paul Academy/Mounds Park Acad. Mark Lyman provided the assist. Blake School additionally got points from Lyman, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Blake School were Christopher Chute, who had one.

Nick Anderson made 30 saves for St. Paul Academy/Mounds Park Acad on 32 shots. The Spartans registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Santelli rejected 28 shots on goal for Blake School. The Bears totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and had no power play opportunities.
