Providence Academy rips Shakopee, 6-3

The Providence Academy Lions had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 6-3 win over the Shakopee Sabers.

Michael Cossette had one goal and two assists to lead Providence Academy. Cossette scored zero seconds into the third period to make the score 5-1 Providence Academy.

The Lions managed to stay out of the box better than usual, racking up one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Providence Academy finished below its season average of 11.0 penalty minutes per game. Shakopee was unable to stop the Lions from sending pucks towards the net, and Providence Academy eventually piled up 37 shots on goal.

Providence Academy also had goals scored by Jake Braun, who had two and Jack McGeehan, Parker DeRosier, and Ryan Tapani, who each put in one. In addition, Providence Academy received assists from Jack McGinty, who had two and Matt Rastaetter, Joe Kenney, and Ryan Muurphy, who each chipped in one.

The Sabers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Lions to score on any of their three power plays. Shakopee kept Providence Academy's goalie busy throughout the game, and Danny Noble made 32 saves on 35 shots.

The Sabers were helped by Preston Husom, who tallied one goal. Husom scored zero seconds into the second period to make the score 3-1 Providence Academy. Ben Jasper provided the assist. Sam Scott also scored for Shakopee. Other players who recorded assists for Shakopee were Brett Vogel, who had one and Bubba Kubes, who had two.

Sean Surbaugh recorded 31 saves for Shakopee. The Sabers ended with 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and had no power play opportunities.
