Huge game by Kothenbeutel boosts Sauk Rapids-Rice over Proctor, 8-2Sauk Rapids East Sat, Jan 26, 2013 The Sauk Rapids-Rice Storm were firing on all cylinders against the Proctor Rails, and when the final buzzer sounded Storm emerged with an 8-2 win. Sauk Rapids-Rice pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 18 penalty minutes. The Storm put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Proctor to score on any of its seven power plays. Sauk Rapids-Rice kept the Rails' goalie busy throughout the game, and Tanner Haedrich made 31 saves on 39 shots. The Storm bested their season scoring average. This season, Sauk Rapids-Rice averages 2.9 goals per contest. The Storm were led by Travis Kothenbeutel, who finished with two goals and three assists. Kothenbeutel scored the first of his two goals at 12:14 into the first period to make the score 3-0 Sauk Rapids-Rice. Colby Kaschmitter provided the assist. Kothenbeutel's next tally made the score 6-2 Sauk Rapids-Rice with 19:16 left in the third period. Brandon Duray picked up the assist. Sauk Rapids-Rice additionally got points from Wyatt Orth, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Mathew Meyer, who also had one goal and two assists, and Duray, who also registered one goal and two assists. Sauk Rapids-Rice also had goals scored by Tyler Long, who had one and Blake Chapa, who had two. In addition, Sauk Rapids-Rice received assists from Ryan Rutar, Joey Streeter, and James Geisler, who contributed one a piece. Proctor racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with five minors and two majors for 40 minutes in penalty time. The Rails surpassed its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game. Proctor forced Sauk Rapids-Rice goalie William Mortenson to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots. The Rails were led by Jake Malec, who registered one goal and one assist. Malec scored short handed eight seconds into the second period to make the score 3-1 Sauk Rapids-Rice. Shane Gould also scored for Proctor. Mortenson recorded 31 saves for the Storm. Sauk Rapids-Rice registered two goals on five power play opportunities.
