Fergus Falls survives Sauk Rapids-Rice comeback, wins 4-3

The Sauk Rapids-Rice Storm tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Fergus Falls Otters held on for a 4-3 victory.

Fergus Falls took a 4-2 lead during the second period, only to have Sauk Rapids-Rice storm back on a Wyatt Orth goal 15:44 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

Sam Rausch was all over the ice for the Otters, as he tallied two goals in the win. Rausch found the back of the net 15:51 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Fergus Falls and again while 3:39 into the second to make the score 3-2 Fergus Falls.

Fergus Falls put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Storm to score on any of their three power plays. Sauk Rapids-Rice was unable to stop the Otters from sending pucks towards the net, and Fergus Falls eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.

Fergus Falls also got a goal from Connor Tarczon as well. In addition, Fergus Falls received assists from Adam Evenson, who had one and Casey Ward, who had two.

The Storm managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Sauk Rapids-Rice finished below its season average of 6.0 penalty minutes per game.

The Storm were helped by Ross Chapa, who grabbed one goal. Chapa scored 3:04 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Corbin Heder assisted on the tally. Sauk Rapids-Rice also got points from Orth, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Travis Kothenbeutel also scored for Sauk Rapids-Rice. Other players who recorded assists for Sauk Rapids-Rice were Brandon Duray and Blake Chapa, who each chipped in one.

Andrew MacFarlane recorded 16 saves for the Otters. Fergus Falls totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 0-for-1 on the power play. William Mortenson made 29 saves for Sauk Rapids-Rice on 33 shots.
