Scanlon's goals lift St. Paul Como Park to 6-2 victory over St. Paul Highland Park

The St. Paul Como Park Cougars relied on the scoring touch of Sawyer Scanlon, who netted two goals, to beat the St. Paul Highland Park Scots, 6-2.

Scanlon found the back of the net 6:13 into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Paul Como Park and again while 15:56 into the second to make the score 5-0 St. Paul Como Park.

St. Paul Como Park stifled St. Paul Highland Park's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Cougars' offense rang up 38 shots on the Scots' net. St. Paul Como Park was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 26 penalty minutes.

St. Paul Como Park also got points from Tom McCullough, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Ryan Thraser, who also registered one goal and one assist. St. Paul Como Park also got a goal from Mitch McNamee as well. In addition, St. Paul Como Park received assists from Erik Wagner, who had two and Jake Gabrielli, Anders Sateren, Drake Durand, and Max Inskeep, who each chipped in one.

St. Paul Highland Park put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Cougars to score on any of their six power plays. The Scots could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 16 minutes in penalties during the game.

St. Paul Highland Park was led by Dylan Zavoral, who tallied one goal. Zavoral scored 1:46 into the third period to make the score 5-1 St. Paul Como Park. Grant Vernon also scored for St. Paul Highland Park. Other players who recorded assists for St. Paul Highland Park were Jack Neisewander, who had one.

Carter McCoy made 14 saves for St. Paul Como Park on 16 shots. Howie Sands rejected 32 shots on goal for the Scots. St. Paul Highland Park registered zero goals on four power play opportunities.
