Early goals doom St. Cloud Tech, falls to Roseau, 10-1

A four-goal first period deficit cost the St. Cloud Tech Tigers, which could not recover and fell to the Roseau Rams, 10-1.

Alex Strand had two goals and four assists to lead Roseau. Strand scored the first of his two goals at 2:31 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Roseau. Zach Yon picked up the assist. Strand's next tally made the score 2-0 Roseau with 16:17 left in the first period. Cole Bjugson assisted on the tally.

The Rams managed to stay out of the box better than usual, totaling one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Roseau wound up below its season average of 8.0 penalty minutes per game. The Rams forced St. Cloud Tech goalie Austin Althaus to work between the pipes, taking 47 shots. Roseau outdid its season average for goals scored. The Rams have scored at the pace of 3.9 goals per game during the current campaign. Roseau's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Roseau also got points from Alex Ziegler, who also registered one goal and two assists, Yon, who also grabbed five goals and three assists to lead the team in points, and Bjugson, who also finished with two goals and two assists. Other players who recorded assists for Roseau were Corey Olson, Jake Leverington, and Jack Helgeson, who contributed one a piece and Alex Halstensgard and Tanner Okeson, who each chipped in two.

The Tigers could not produce up to they normal offensive output. St. Cloud Tech averages 3.4 goals per game. The Rams' defense shut down the Tigers' forwards for much of the game, and St. Cloud Tech got off only 14 shots during the contest.

The Tigers were led by Joe Setrum, who scored the team's only goal. Setrum scored 11:45 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Roseau. Joey Mendel picked up the assist.

Ryan Anderson rejected 13 shots on goal for Roseau. The Rams registered two goals on five power play opportunities. St. Cloud Tech's Althaus stopped 37 shots out of the 47 that he faced. The Tigers incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
