Rochester Mayo rolls over Winona, 8-0Rochester: Graham Arena 1 Tue, Jan 15, 2013 The Rochester Mayo Spartans had a five-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to an 8-0 win over the Winona Winhawks. Logan Haskins had two goals and two assists to lead Rochester Mayo. Haskins scored the first of his two goals short handed at 13:07 into the third period to make the score 7-0 Rochester Mayo. The Spartans found themselves down a man on Tommy Hanson's boarding. Haskins' next tally short handed made the score 8-0 Rochester Mayo with 6:00 left in the third period. Tommy Fjelsted provided the assist. Rochester Mayo racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and one major for 17 minutes in penalty time. The Spartans surpassed its season average of 10.0 penalty minutes per game. Rochester Mayo excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Spartans' defensive effort looked to be improved. Rochester Mayo gives up 2.2 goals on average per game. The Spartans kept Winona's goalie busy throughout the game, and Andrew Yeske made 35 saves on 43 shots. Rochester Mayo found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Rochester Mayo also got points from Ryan Martin, who also finished with one goal and two assists, Adam Alcott, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Max Whitney, who also tallied one goal and two assists. Nick Newman also scored for Rochester Mayo. In addition, Rochester Mayo received assists from Ethan Moore and Matt Rogers, who contributed one a piece. Case Hansen recorded 21 saves for Rochester Mayo. The Spartans registered one goal on three power play opportunities. The Winhawks incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
