Rochester Mayo rolls over Faribault, 4-1

Rochester: Graham Arena 1    Sat, Feb 09, 2013

The Faribault Falcons had trouble finding ways to stop the Rochester Mayo Spartans, which beat Falcons, 4-1.

Rochester Mayo was sparked by Justyn Sweet, who tallied one goal. Sweet scored 11:33 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Rochester Mayo. Matt Rogers assisted on the tally.

The Spartans racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and one major for 17 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 10.0 minutes per game Rochester Mayo had been spending in the box. The Spartans' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Faribault power plays.

Rochester Mayo also got points from Ryan Martin, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Rochester Mayo also got a goal from Tommy Hanson as well. In addition, Rochester Mayo received assists from Tommy Fjelsted and Adam Alcott, who each chipped in one.

Faribault found itself stymied offensively, and got off a mere 12 shots against Rochester Mayo's defense. The Falcons could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 20 minutes in penalties during the game.

Faribault was led by Issiah Brogden, who scored the team's only goal. Brogden scored short handed 7:02 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Rochester Mayo.

Case Hansen recorded 11 saves for the Spartans. Rochester Mayo registered one goal on eight power play opportunities. The Falcons' Cody Morsching stopped 25 shots out of the 29 that he faced.
