Providence Academy beats Richfield 8-2 as Tapani gets hat trick

Ryan Tapani lifted the Providence Academy Lions to an 8-2 victory with a hat trick against the Richfield Spartans.

Tapani got on the scoresheet 5:23 into the first period. He then added goals at 11:12 into the second and at 16:18 into the second.

Providence Academy kept Richfield's goalie busy throughout the game, and Zach Ulmer made 40 saves on 48 shots. The Lions found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, Providence Academy averages 4.6 goals per contest. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with three goals.

Providence Academy additionally got points from Jake Braun, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Michael Cossette also scored for Providence Academy. In addition, Providence Academy received assists from Austin Jacenko, who had two and Joe Kenney, Bobby Latvala, Anders Gilyard, and Jack McGinty, who contributed one a piece.

The Spartans' offense rang up 31 shots on the Lions' net.

Richfield was helped by Kevin Ahlstrand, who tallied one goal and one assist. Ahlstrand scored 4:48 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Richfield. Trigve Duryea picked up the assist. Richfield also got points from Kody Ahlstrand, who also had one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Richfield were Jack Stellon, who had one.

Nick Pruden rejected 29 shots on goal for Providence Academy. The Lions totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-2 on the power play. The Spartans incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
