Luverne rips Redwood Valley, 9-0

The Redwood Valley Cardinals had trouble finding ways to stop the Luverne Cardinals, which beat Cardinals, 9-0.

Austin Maxwell had one goal and two assists to lead Luverne. Maxwell scored 2:33 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Luverne. Matthew Sterrett assisted on the tally.

The Cardinals managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Luverne ended up below its season average of 8.0 penalty minutes per game. The Cardinals kept Redwood Valley's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jordan Houle made 51 saves on 60 shots. Luverne's goal total was higher than its season average. The Cardinals have scored at the pace of 6.2 goals per game during the current campaign.

Luverne additionally got points from Chaz Smedsrud, who also registered one goal and one assist, Jonny Solma, who also tallied two goals and one assist, Gunnar Olson, who also racked up two goals and two assists to lead the team in points, and Skyler Wenninger, who also had two goals and one assist. Connor Hoffman also scored for Luverne. More assists for Luverne came via Jordan Dingmann, who had one, Toby Sengvongxay, who had two, and Logan Norman, who had three.

The Cardinals did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Redwood Valley puts an average of 2.2 pucks into the net per game. The Cardinals' offense were handcuffed by Luverne's defensive play, and Redwood Valley managed only 14 shots on goal during the game.
