Morris/Benson Area beats Redwood Valley 9-1 as Beyer gets hat trickRedwood Area Community Center Mon, Feb 04, 2013 Mac Beyer netted a hat trick to lead the Morris/Benson Area Storm over the Redwood Valley Cardinals, 9-1. Beyer notched his first tally 8:27 into the first period. He then added goals at 23 seconds into the second and at 12:28 into the second.Morris/Benson Area gained an early advantage, leading 5-1 by the end of the first period. The Storm put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Redwood Valley to score on any of its three power plays. The Cardinals were unable to stop Morris/Benson Area from sending pucks towards the net, and the Storm eventually piled up 50 shots on goal. Morris/Benson Area outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, the Storm average 6.2 goals per contest. Morris/Benson Area also got points from Brody Gimberlin, who also racked up one goal and three assists, Tanner Picht, who also grabbed one goal and three assists to lead the team in points, Taner Gimberlin, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Corey Goff, who also registered one goal and two assists. Corey Storck also scored for Morris/Benson Area. In addition, Morris/Benson Area received assists from Bo Olson, Andrew Rentz, Darion Helberg, and Chad Schwarz, who each chipped in one. Redwood Valley managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Cardinals finished below its season average of 7.0 penalty minutes per game. Kyle Kennedy made 16 saves for Morris/Benson Area on 17 shots. The Storm incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Jordan Houle rejected 41 shots on goal for Redwood Valley.
