Providence Academy rolls over Waconia, 5-1Providence Academy Thu, Jan 31, 2013 The Providence Academy Lions had a four-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-1 win over the Waconia Wildcats. Waconia's power play was ineffective against Providence Academy's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded. The Lions were led by Jake Braun, who finished with one goal and one assist. Braun scored 15:39 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Providence Academy. Joe Kenney picked up the assist. Providence Academy forced the Wildcats goalie Nathan Kovach to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots. The Lions could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 14 minutes in penalties during the game. Providence Academy also got a goal from Michael Cossette as well. Other players who recorded assists for Providence Academy were Matt Murphy, who had one and Ryan Tapani, who had three. Waconia's offense operated below it season average. The Wildcats put an average of 3.4 pucks into the net per game. Danny Noble recorded 15 saves for Providence Academy. The Lions registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Nathan Kovach made 31 saves for Waconia on 36 shots. The Wildcats incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
