St. Paul Academy/Mounds Park Acad wins tough contest against Providence Academy, 6-4

The game between the St. Paul Academy/Mounds Park Acad Spartans and the Providence Academy Lions was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end St. Paul Academy/Mounds Park Acad emerged with a 6-4 win.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Drew Blackmum's goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker.

Blackmum had two goals and two assists to lead the Spartans. Blackmum scored the first of his two goals at 4:30 into the second period to make the score 2-1 St. Paul Academy/Mounds Park Acad. Peter Wood picked up the assist. Blackmum's next tally made the score 6-4 St. Paul Academy/Mounds Park Acad with 3:03 left in the third period.

St. Paul Academy/Mounds Park Acad also got points from Wood, who also finished with one goal and one assist. St. Paul Academy/Mounds Park Acad also got a goal from Justin Jallen as well. In addition, St. Paul Academy/Mounds Park Acad received assists from Jared Mickelson, Evan Dahlseide, Tyler Seplak, and Josh Johnson, who contributed one a piece.

Providence Academy stifled St. Paul Academy/Mounds Park Acad's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with three goals.

The Lions were led by Ryan Tapani, who had three goals. Jack McGinty also scored for Providence Academy. Other players who recorded assists for Providence Academy were Michael Cossette, Joe Kenney, Jake Braun, Jack McGeehan, and Matt Murphy, who each chipped in one.

Nick Anderson recorded 13 saves for the Spartans. St. Paul Academy/Mounds Park Acad incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Providence Academy's Nick Pruden stopped 24 shots out of the 29 that he faced. The Lions incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
