Providence Academy falls to Faribault in overtime, 6-5 (OT)

Evan Jensen gave the Faribault Falcons a 6-5 (OT) victory over the Providence Academy Lions when he scored 59 seconds into the extra period.

Providence Academy could not complete its climb out of a three-goal hole. Faribault made the score 6-3 on a power play goal by Issiah Brogden at 10:51 in the third period. The Lions got to within 6-5 on a goal by Jake Braun at 16:31 in the third period.

The Falcons surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Faribault averages 3.2 goals per game. The Falcons took advantage of Providence Academy's penalties, tallying two goals off of three power play opportunities.

Faribault additionally got points from Cody Colegrove, who also registered one goal and one assist. Turner Putrah also scored for Faribault. In addition, Faribault received assists from Riley Marquardt, Riley Jandro, and Christan Von Ruden, who contributed one a piece and Daniel Pierce and Logan Murphy, who each chipped in two.

The Lions' offense rang up 37 shots on Faribault's net. The defensemen of Providence Academy were also effective in the Falcons' zone, and came away with two goals.

The Lions were led by Ryan Tapani, who tallied two goals and three assists. Tapani scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 6:10 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Faribault. Braun provided the assist. Tapani's next tally on the power play made the score 6-4 Faribault with 7:10 left in the third period. Michael Cossette picked up the assist. Providence Academy also got points from Cossette, who also had one goal and one assist and Braun, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Providence Academy also got a goal from Ryan Muurphy as well. Other players who recorded assists for Providence Academy were Joe Kenney, who had two.

Cody Morsching rejected 32 shots on goal for Faribault. The Falcons incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Danny Noble recorded 21 saves for Providence Academy. The Lions totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-1 on the power play.
