Buness' big game bests Sauk Rapids-Rice in 8-3 Princeton win

Princeton Ice Arena    Sat, Feb 09, 2013

The Princeton Tigers' Collin Buness had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing three assists in his team's 8-3 win over the Sauk Rapids-Rice Storm.

Buness found the back of the net 15:42 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Princeton and again while 7:01 into the third to make the score 5-2 Princeton.

Princeton's penalty kill excelled, as the Tigers gave up zero goals despite allowing 11 power plays.

Princeton forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 10 minors and one major for 25 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 10.0 minutes per game the Tigers had been spending in the box. Princeton stifled Sauk Rapids-Rice's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Storm were unable to stop the Tigers from sending pucks towards the net, and Princeton eventually piled up 54 shots on goal.

Princeton also got points from Dan Muench, who also grabbed three goals and two assists to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Princeton included Chase Lindenfelser, who had one and A.J. Wesloh, who had two. More assists for Princeton came via Daniel Voce, who had two, Cam Paulson, who had three, and Jake Green and Jordan Forschen, who contributed one a piece.

Sauk Rapids-Rice was helped by James Geisler, who registered one goal. Geisler scored 10:30 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Princeton. Mathew Meyer also scored for Sauk Rapids-Rice. In addition, Sauk Rapids-Rice received assists from Wyatt Orth, who had one.

The Tigers' Max Mattson stopped 21 shots out of the 24 that he faced. Princeton registered zero goals on zero power play opportunities. William Mortenson rejected 46 shots on goal for the Storm.
