New Ulm outlasts Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato, 3-2

The New Ulm Eagles gutted out a close 3-2 win against the Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato Dragons.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Mitch Neid secured the win for New Ulm with a goal in the third period.

The Eagles were led by Neid, who registered one goal. Neid scored 14:42 into the third period to make the score 3-2 New Ulm. Colin Huffman picked up the assist.

New Ulm managed to stay out of the box better than usual, racking up one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Eagles ended up below its season average of 8.0 penalty minutes per game. New Ulm's offense rang up 37 shots on Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato's net.

Brandon Helget also scored for New Ulm. Other players who recorded assists for New Ulm were Judd Davis and Wyatt Peterson, who each chipped in one.

The Dragons stifled the Eagles' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato was helped by Aaron Haataja, who finished with one goal. Haataja scored short handed 9:19 into the third period to make the score 2-2. The Dragons were on a disadvantage when Taylor Gassman went off the ice for hooking. Mike Spreiter assisted on the tally. Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato additionally got points from Spreiter, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato came via Kent Ryynanen and Ben Haugo, who contributed one a piece.

Brach Kraus recorded 23 saves for New Ulm. The Eagles registered zero goals on five power play opportunities. Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato's Braeden Wahl stopped 34 shots out of the 37 that he faced. The Dragons totaled 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-1 on the power play.
