New Ulm beats Hutchinson 4-3 after comeback scare

The New Ulm Eagles survived a determined comeback attempt by the Hutchinson Tigers on the way to a 4-3 win.

A goal by Blake Neumann put New Ulm up 4-2 in the third period, but Hutchinson pulled to within one on Logan Goosen's tally 14:00 into the third period.

Neumann had one goal and two assists to lead the Eagles. Neumann scored on the power play 5:33 into the third period to make the score New Ulm. New Ulm had gotten the advantage when the Tigers' Austin Mandelkow was sent off for slashing. Judd Davis assisted on the tally.

The Eagles kept Hutchinson's goalie busy throughout the game, and Kellyn Buss made 27 saves on 31 shots. New Ulm found itself short handed often, totaling 20 penalty minutes and allowing seven power plays.

New Ulm additionally got points from Davis, who also had one goal and one assist. New Ulm also got a goal from Wyatt Peterson as well. More assists for New Ulm came via Brandon Helget, Lucas Heiderscheidt, and Alex Stark, who each chipped in one.

The Tigers forced the Eagles goalie Brach Kraus to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots. Hutchinson's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Tigers finished with 16 penalty minutes.

Hutchinson was helped by Matthew Cowger, who tallied one goal. Cowger scored 2:07 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Carter Mandelkow also scored for Hutchinson. In addition, Hutchinson received assists from Tory Adams, who had one.

Kraus recorded 28 saves for New Ulm. The Eagles registered two goals on five power play opportunities.
