Mound-Westonka stifles Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato's comeback, gains 7-5 victoryThaler Hockey Arena Thu, Jan 03, 2013 The Mound-Westonka Whitehawks, who led by four goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by Mound-Westonka and clinched a 7-5 victory. The Whitehawks led by four goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when Mound-Westonka's Charlie Curti's scored on the power play at 11:38 in the third period to put the Whitehawks up 6-2. Ben O Barsky had one goal and two assists to lead Mound-Westonka. O Barsky scored 24 seconds into the third period to make the score 4-2 Mound-Westonka. In a losing effort, the Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato Dragons were paced by Aaron Haataja, who tallied two goals. Haataja scored the first of his two goals at 9:18 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato. Kent Ryynanen assisted on the tally. Haataja's next tally made the score 6-4 Mound-Westonka with 4:56 left in the third period. Ryynanen provided the assist. The Whitehawks forced Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato goalie Braeden Wahl to work between the pipes, taking 52 shots. Mound-Westonka's goal total was higher than its season average. The Whitehawks average 3.6 goals per game. The defensemen of Mound-Westonka were also effective in the Dragons' zone, and came away with two goals. Mound-Westonka additionally got points from Hunter Smith, who also registered one goal and one assist, Jack Brandstetter, who also grabbed two goals and one assist, and Curti, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Mound-Westonka also got a goal from Sander Lee as well. More assists for Mound-Westonka came via Kyle Luehman, who had one and Jack Sterne, who had two. Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato kept the Whitehawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Andy Seats made 29 saves on 34 shots. Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato also got points from Ryynanen, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Eddie Estrada also scored for Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato. In addition, Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato received assists from Reid Nelson, Mike Spreiter, and Garrett Impola, who contributed one a piece.
