St. Cloud Cathedral uses fast start to beat Mora/Hinkley-Finlayson, 11-4

The St. Cloud Cathedral Crusaders jumped out to a four-point advantage by the end of the first period and beat the Mora/Hinkley-Finlayson Mustangs, 11-4.

Tommy Hall was all over the ice for St. Cloud Cathedral, as he tallied two goals and four assists in the win. Hall scored the first of his two goals at 7:01 into the second period to make the score 7-2 St. Cloud Cathedral. Austin Poganski provided the assist. Hall's next tally made the score 9-4 St. Cloud Cathedral with 15:23 left in the third period. Poganski assisted on the tally.

The Crusaders kept Mora/Hinkley-Finlayson's goalie busy throughout the game, and Tanner Baxley made 40 saves on 51 shots. St. Cloud Cathedral bested its season scoring average. The Crusaders have scored at the pace of 4.5 goals per game during the current campaign. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with three goals.

St. Cloud Cathedral also got points from Poganski, who also grabbed four goals and two assists and Trevor Cornelius, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Others who scored for St. Cloud Cathedral included Mitchell Fritz, who had two and Leo Lommel and Will Hammer, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for St. Cloud Cathedral were Austin Swingle, who had three and Logan Neu, Dan Bailey, Cole Wensman, and Matt Fritz, who contributed one a piece.

The Mustangs managed to stay out of the box better than usual, totaling one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Mora/Hinkley-Finlayson finished below its season average of 11.0 penalty minutes per game. The Mustangs did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Mora/Hinkley-Finlayson averages 6.3 goals per game.

The Mustangs were led by Troy Jones, who had two goals. Jones scored the first of his two goals at 4:16 into the third period to make the score 8-3 St. Cloud Cathedral. Tyler Orr provided the assist. Jones' next tally made the score 8-4 St. Cloud Cathedral with 15:23 left in the third period. Tyler Larson assisted on the tally. Thomas Pasillas also scored for Mora/Hinkley-Finlayson. More assists for Mora/Hinkley-Finlayson came via Connor Cannon and Hunter Wedin, who each chipped in one.

Connor Amundson made 14 saves for St. Cloud Cathedral on 18 shots. The Crusaders incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Mora/Hinkley-Finlayson registered zero goals on two power play opportunities.
