Graves' big game bests Pine City/Rush City in 9-1 Mora/Hinkley-Finlayson win

The Mora/Hinkley-Finlayson Mustangs' Derek Graves had a big offensive game, scoring four goals and contributing one assist in his team's 9-1 win over the Pine City/Rush City Dragons.

Graves notched his first tally 2:55 into the first period. He then added goals at 4:37 into the first, at 2:47 into the second, and at 7:41 into the third.

Mora/Hinkley-Finlayson was led by goalie Tanner Baxley, who finished with 25 saves while allowing one goal. Despite the solid performance, Baxley will actually see his goals against average rise, as it stood at 1.18 entering the contest.

The Mustangs stifled Pine City/Rush City's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Dragons were unable to stop Mora/Hinkley-Finlayson from sending pucks towards the net, and the Mustangs eventually piled up 46 shots on goal. The defensemen of Mora/Hinkley-Finlayson were also effective in Pine City/Rush City's zone, and came away with two goals.

Mora/Hinkley-Finlayson also got points from Troy Jones, who also racked up two goals and one assist and Dylan Libra, who also tallied two goals and two assists. Mora/Hinkley-Finlayson also got a goal from Justin Kneiszler as well. In addition, Mora/Hinkley-Finlayson received assists from Christian Leeb and Connor Cannon, who contributed one a piece.

The Dragons' penalty kill unit could not stop the Mustangs' power play, which converted on three of five opportunities.

Mora/Hinkley-Finlayson incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Tony Pitzen rejected 37 shots on goal for Pine City/Rush City. The Dragons totaled 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 0-for-5 on the power play. Pine City/Rush City ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Zach Smith was ejected from the game.
