Minnehaha Academy rips St. Paul Johnson, 5-2

The Minnehaha Academy Red Hawks had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-2 win over the St. Paul Johnson Governors.

Minnehaha Academy got the win behind a great game by Ryan Evenson, who had two goals and one assist. Evenson scored the first of his two goals at 15:14 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Minnehaha Academy. Max Hobrough assisted on the tally. Evenson's next tally made the score 4-1 Minnehaha Academy with 19:20 left in the third period. Erik Madryga picked up the assist.

Minnehaha Academy also got points from Hobrough, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Madryga, who also registered one goal and two assists, and Andre LaRenzie, who also tallied one goal and one assist. More assists for Minnehaha Academy came via Ryan Leo, who had two and Zach Newton and Nick Terlizzi, who contributed one a piece.

St. Paul Johnson forced the Red Hawks goalie Matt Sawyer to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots.

The Governors were led by Matthew Blees, who racked up two goals. Blees scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 6:04 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Minnehaha Academy. St. Paul Johnson had gained a power play chance when David Schuyler was whistled for holding. Matt Ranum provided the assist. Blees' next tally on the power play made the score 5-2 Minnehaha Academy with 7:54 left in the third period. The Governors were on a disadvantage when Mitchell Feske went off the ice for tripping. Other players who recorded assists for St. Paul Johnson were Jake Solheid, who had one.

Matt Sawyer made 36 saves for Minnehaha Academy on 38 shots. The Red Hawks incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Samuel Moberg recorded 20 saves for St. Paul Johnson. The Governors totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play.
