Minnehaha Academy outlasts New Ulm, 5-3Minnehaha Academy Ice Arena Sat, Jan 19, 2013 The Minnehaha Academy Red Hawks gutted out a close 5-3 win against the New Ulm Eagles. Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and David Schuyler secured the win for Minnehaha Academy with a goal in the second period. Schuyler had a great game for the Red Hawks, netting two goals. Minnehaha Academy put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow New Ulm to score on any of its four power plays. The defensemen of the Red Hawks were also effective in the Eagles' zone, and came away with two goals. Others who scored for Minnehaha Academy included Ryan Evenson, who had one and Ryan Leo, who had two. Other players who recorded assists for Minnehaha Academy were Jacob Eggers, Zach Newton, Erik Madryga, and John DiGiorno, who contributed one a piece. New Ulm's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Minnehaha Academy power plays. The Eagles' offense rang up 38 shots on Minnehaha Academy's net. New Ulm was helped by Colin Huffman, who had one goal. Huffman scored 11:04 into the second period to make the score 3-3. New Ulm also got a goal from Judd Davis as well. In addition, New Ulm received assists from Brandon Helget and Blake Neumann, who each chipped in one. Matt Sawyer made 35 saves for the Red Hawks on 38 shots. Minnehaha Academy incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Brach Kraus recorded 22 saves for the Eagles. New Ulm incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
