Luverne downs St. Paul Johnson, 3-1PSI Internal Staff Fri, Jan 25, 2013 Jordan Dingmann registered two points to lead the Luverne Cardinals to a 3-1 victory over the St. Paul Johnson Governors. Luverne did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Cardinals put an average of 6.4 pucks into the net per game. Cole Desplinter also scored for Luverne. In addition, Luverne received assists from Jackson Frankenhoff, who had one. St. Paul Johnson's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Luverne power plays. The Governors' offense were handcuffed by Luverne's defensive play, and St. Paul Johnson managed only 12 shots on goal during the game. The Governors were led by Jesse Solheid, who scored the team's only goal. Solheid scored on the power play 7:30 into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Paul Johnson. St. Paul Johnson had gotten the advantage when the Cardinals' Austin Maxwell was sent off for checking from behind. Thomas Murphy picked up the assist. Kendall Meyer recorded 11 saves for Luverne. The Cardinals ended with 19 minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major. Samuel Moberg rejected 25 shots on goal for the Governors. St. Paul Johnson incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
