Luverne pulls away in second, rolls over Redwood Valley, 8-1

The Luverne Cardinals used a five-goal second period to put away the Redwood Valley Cardinals, 8-1.

Luverne was sparked by Travis Frakes, who grabbed one goal. Frakes scored 1:46 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Luverne. Logan Norman assisted on the tally.

The Cardinals made Redwood Valley's goaltenders to work in net, taking 60 shots and forcing 52 saves. Jordan Houle made 47 stops and Amadus Jesinghaus made five. Luverne stifled the Cardinals' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Cardinals' goal total was higher than their season average. This season, Luverne averages 4.3 goals per contest. The Cardinals got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed four goals during the game.

Luverne also got points from Chaz Smedsrud, who also tallied two goals and two assists to lead the team in points, Austin Maxwell, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Toby Sengvongxay, who also had two goals and one assist, and Skyler Wenninger, who also registered one goal and two assists. Jordan Dingmann also scored for Luverne. In addition, Luverne received assists from Jonny Solma and Gunnar Olson, who contributed two a piece.

Redwood Valley also got a goal from Logan Sandgren as well. Other players who recorded assists for Redwood Valley were Austin Kretsch, who had one.

Kendall Meyer took the win and made 24 saves before being replaced by Connor Crabtree who made five saves. Luverne incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Redwood Valley totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 0-for-5 on the power play. For the Cardinals, Chris Hallden was ejected from the game.
