Luverne rolls over Morris/Benson Area, 7-0

The Luverne Cardinals were firing on all cylinders against the Morris/Benson Area Storm, and when the final buzzer sounded Cardinals emerged with a 7-0 win.

Toby Sengvongxay was all over the ice for Luverne, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Sengvongxay scored on the power play 4:22 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Luverne. A holding penalty on Jordan Staples had put the Cardinals on the power play.

Luverne put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Morris/Benson Area to score on any of its three power plays. The Cardinals forced the Storm goalie Kyle Kennedy to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Luverne also got points from Chaz Smedsrud, who also had one goal and one assist and Skyler Wenninger, who also grabbed two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Luverne included Austin Maxwell, who had one and Andrew Verhey, who had two. Other players who recorded assists for Luverne were Kendall Meyer, Logan Norman, Jonny Solma, and Gunnar Olson, who each chipped in one.

Morris/Benson Area could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Storm put an average of 5.0 pucks into the net per game. Morris/Benson Area found itself short handed often, totaling 14 penalty minutes and allowing six power plays.

Luverne's Kendall Meyer stopped 20 shots out of the 20 that he faced. The Cardinals incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Kyle Kennedy made 25 saves for the Storm on 32 shots.
