Newman nets hat trick, leads Little Falls to 5-1 win over Fergus Falls

Little Falls Exchange Arena    Fri, Dec 07, 2012

The Fergus Falls Otters could not stop the Little Falls Flyers' Ben Newman, who tallied a hat trick in a 5-1 win.

Newman got on the scoresheet 4:33 into the second period. He then added goals at 6:59 into the second and at 12:14 into the third.

Little Falls' Michael Stumpf was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 28 saves and let only one puck past him. Despite the solid performance, Stumpf will actually see his goals against average rise, as it stood at 0.88 entering the contest.

Austin Bjorge also scored for Little Falls. In addition, Little Falls received assists from Matthew Stumpf, who had two and Luke Majerle, Taylor Kottschade, Mark Anez, and Nathan Adamietz, who contributed one a piece.

Fergus Falls was led by Sam Rausch, who scored the team's only goal. Rausch scored on the power play 4:13 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Little Falls. The Otters earned a power play opportunity when Team Bench was put in the box for too many men. Casey Ward assisted on the tally.

The Flyers totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 2-for-4 on the power play. Fergus Falls' Ian Bjorgum stopped 24 shots out of the 29 that he faced. The Otters incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
