Waseca completes comeback, beats La Crescent, 5-4

Undaunted by a two-goal deficit, the Waseca Bluejays battled back to claim a 5-4 victory over the La Crescent Lancers.

Waseca let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a two hole to pick up the win. The Bluejays took a 3-2 advantage on a short handed goal by JP Eykyn at 6:42 in the second period. Waseca found itself down 2-0 after La Crescent's Justin Paul put the puck home at 8:21 in the first period. After evening things up at 4-4 on a power play goal by Paul at 8:32 in the third, the Bluejays got the game-winner from Eykyn at 13:13 in the third period.

Waseca was often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and two majors for 36 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 13.0 minutes per game the Bluejays had been spending in the box. Waseca's goal total was higher than its season average. The Bluejays average 2.8 goals per game.

Waseca also got a goal from Wyatt Krampitz as well. More assists for Waseca came via Brett Whitehurst, Jesse Ungs, Dakota Johnson, and Barry McRaith, who contributed one a piece.

The Lancers were held back by their power play unit, which tallied two goals on nine chances.

La Crescent was helped by Noah Salow, who tallied two goals. Salow scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 3:22 into the first period to make the score 1-0 La Crescent. Paul assisted on the tally. Salow's next tally on the power play made the score 3-3 with 9:21 left in the second period. La Crescent also got points from Paul, who also had two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for La Crescent were Jevin Dorscher, who had two and Zack Hanno and Kyle Colsch, who each chipped in one.

Zac Weichert recorded 14 saves for Waseca. The Bluejays registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. Josh DeBoer made 24 saves for the Lancers on 29 shots. La Crescent incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
