Mound-Westonka beats Hutchinson 5-2 as Smith gets hat trickHutchinson High School Tue, Feb 12, 2013 The Hutchinson Tigers could not stop the Mound-Westonka Whitehawks' Hunter Smith, who tallied a hat trick in a 5-2 win. Smith got on the scoresheet 2:21 into the second period. He then added goals at 14:10 into the second and at 16:07 into the third.With 45 shots on target during the contest, Mound-Westonka exceeded the 0.9 shots it averages per game this year. Mound-Westonka also got points from Jack Brandstetter, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Mound-Westonka also got a goal from Tanner Palm as well. In addition, Mound-Westonka received assists from Charlie Curti, who had two, Tommy Ewing, who had four, and Blake Brady, Ben O Barsky, and Jeremy Schulz, who each chipped in one. Hutchinson avoided man-down situations well, totaling one major for five minutes in penalty time. The Tigers ended up below its season average of 9.0 penalty minutes per game. Hutchinson was helped by L.J. Rogers, who had one goal. Rogers scored on the power play 4:57 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Mound-Westonka. Jake Larson picked up the assist. Logan Goosen also scored for Hutchinson. More assists for Hutchinson came via Alec Maher, Tory Adams, and Keegan Maceman, who contributed one a piece.
