The Orono Spartans and the Hopkins Royals were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Orono made the most of its opportunities and won, 3-2.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Sam Challgren at 6:36 of the second period.

Challgren had two goals to lead the Spartans to victory.

Orono also got points from Gavin Payne, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Orono received assists from Joey Luedtke, who had two and Ellis Noerenberg and Danny Willson, who contributed one a piece.

Hopkins put 31 shots on net during the contest, more than the 2.4 it averages per game.

The Royals were helped by Jim Copouls, who racked up one goal. Copouls scored 4:05 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Hopkins. Jonah Shoemaker-Gagnon picked up the assist. Hopkins also got a goal from Matt Hines as well. More assists for Hopkins came via Anthony Degiulio and Josh Laven, who each chipped in one.

Ryan Breon rejected 29 shots on goal for Orono. The Spartans totaled seven minutes in penalty time with one minor and one major and went 1-for-2 on the power play. Hopkins' Josh Kuehmichel stopped 16 shots out of the 19 that he faced. The Royals incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
