Marooney's big game bests Minneapolis in 9-2 Holy Family Catholic win

Behind a great game by Joey Marooney, who had two goals and two assists, the Holy Family Catholic Fire defeated the Minneapolis Novas, 9-2.

Marooney scored on the power play at 13:21 into the first period to make the score 3-0 Holy Family Catholic and again while 2:22 into the second to make the score 5-0 Holy Family Catholic.

Minneapolis' seven penalties came back to haunt it, as the Novas let up four goals while on the penalty kill.

Holy Family Catholic made Novas' netminders to work in net, ripping 35 shots and forcing 26 saves. TJ Moseley made 21 stops and Erik Toftner made five. The Fire's goal total was higher than their season average. Holy Family Catholic averages 4.3 goals per game.

Holy Family Catholic also got points from Dylan Woolf, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Garret Riebling, who also registered two goals and two assists, Shane Gersich, who also grabbed two goals and two assists, and Jonh Peterson, who also had two goals and two assists. Other players who recorded assists for Holy Family Catholic were Will Garin, who had two, Ryan Swanson, who had three, and Matt Runyon, Sam Stenson, Ben Wilson, and Matt Anderson, who each chipped in one.

Minneapolis was often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The Novas surpassed its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game.

Minneapolis was helped by Henry Christman, who finished with one goal and one assist. Christman scored on the power play 16:47 into the third period to make the score 9-2 Holy Family Catholic. The Novas had gained a power play chance when Swanson was whistled for tripping. Joe Guimont provided the assist. Minneapolis additionally got points from Guimont, who also tallied one goal and one assist. More assists for Minneapolis came via Cris Grassel, who had one.

Dayton Rassmussen recorded 16 saves for the Fire. Holy Family Catholic ended with 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major. Minneapolis registered one goal on four power play opportunities.
