Hermantown rolls over Orono, 8-0

The Hermantown Hawks had a six-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to an 8-0 win over the Orono Spartans.

Hermantown was paced by Lane LeGarde, who tallied one goal and one assist. LeGarde scored on the power play 13:24 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Hermantown. A tripping penalty on Danny Willson had put the Hawks on the power play. Nate Pionk provided the assist.

Hermantown excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Hawks kept Orono's goalie busy throughout the game, and Ryan Breon made 49 saves on 57 shots.

Hermantown additionally got points from Bo Gronseth, who also finished with one goal and three assists, Neal Pionk, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Chris Benson, who also had two goals and two assists to lead the team in points. Hermantown also had goals scored by Scott Wasbotten, who had one and Zach Kramer, who had two. Other players who recorded assists for Hermantown were Jake Zeleznikar, who had one, Grant Sega, who had two, and Travis Koepke, who had three.

The Spartans racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with five minors and three majors for 35 minutes in penalty time. Orono had been averaging 22.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Spartans' offense operated below they season average. Orono puts an average of 3.3 pucks into the net per game.

Hermantown's Jace Thomas stopped 15 shots out of the 15 that he faced. The Hawks incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
