Hermantown holds on for 4-3 win against Marshall School Duluth

The Marshall School Duluth Hilltoppers tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Hermantown Hawks would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-3.

Hermantown made the score 4-2 on a goal by Scott Wasbotten at 11:26 in the third period, and Marshall School Duluth got as close as 4-3 when Jeremy Lopez scored 12:10 into the third period.

Chris Benson was all over the ice for the Hawks, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Benson scored the first of his two goals at 10 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Hermantown. Travis Koepke picked up the assist. Benson's next tally made the score 3-2 Hermantown with 19:53 left in the third period. Bo Gronseth provided the assist.

Hermantown excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Hawks did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Hermantown averages 7.0 goals per game. The Hawks' offense rang up 49 shots on the Hilltoppers' net.

Jake Zeleznikar also scored for Hermantown. More assists for Hermantown came via Christian Wasbotten and Neal Pionk, who each chipped in one.

Marshall School Duluth managed to stay out of the box better than usual, tallying one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Hilltoppers wound up below its season average of 13.0 penalty minutes per game.

Marshall School Duluth was helped by Connor Flaherty, who finished with one goal. Flaherty scored 9:55 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Brady Nash picked up the assist. Marshall School Duluth also got points from Lopez, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Marshall School Duluth also got a goal from Kris McKinzie as well. In addition, Marshall School Duluth received assists from Anthony Miller and Jordon Fralich, who contributed one a piece.

Hermantown's Jace Thomas stopped 22 shots out of the 25 that he faced. The Hawks incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Alex Murray rejected 45 shots on goal for the Hilltoppers.
