Huge game by Benson boosts Hermantown over Duluth Denfeld, 7-1

Chris Benson had one goal and three assists to lead the Hermantown Hawks to a 7-1 victory over the Duluth Denfeld Hunters.

Benson scored 3:27 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Hermantown. Benson dished an assist on Bo Gronseth's goal that made the score 3-0 Hermantown at 6:13 into the second period. He then added assists on Gronseth's goal at 9:27 into the second and on Jake Zeleznikar's goal at 8:13 into the third.

Hermantown's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Duluth Denfeld power plays. The Hawks kept Duluth Denfeld's goalie busy throughout the game, and Zach Thompson made 47 saves on 54 shots.

Hermantown additionally got points from Gronseth, who also tallied two goals and one assist. Others who scored for Hermantown included Jared Zeleznikar, who had one and Scott Wasbotten, who had two. In addition, Hermantown received assists from Neal Pionk, Zach Kramer, and Travis Koepke, who each chipped in one.

The Hunters did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Duluth Denfeld puts an average of 4.7 pucks into the net per game. The Hunters put 15 shots on net during the contest, more than the 0.1 they average per game. Duluth Denfeld could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

Jace Thomas rejected 14 shots on goal for Hermantown. The Hawks incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
