St. Paul Johnson blows out Greenway, 9-0

The St. Paul Johnson Governors had an eight-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 9-0 win over the Greenway Raiders.

Justin Howell had two goals and one assist to lead St. Paul Johnson. Howell scored the first of his two goals at 4:51 into the first period to make the score 2-0 St. Paul Johnson. Mitchell Feske assisted on the tally. Howell's next tally made the score 8-0 St. Paul Johnson with 4:16 left in the second period. Thomas Murphy picked up the assist.

The Governors put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Greenway to score on any of its four power plays. The Raiders were unable to stop St. Paul Johnson from sending pucks towards the net, and the Governors eventually piled up 51 shots on goal. St. Paul Johnson outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, the Governors average 3.4 goals per contest.

St. Paul Johnson also got points from Feske, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Benny Lyons, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Christian Sanda also scored for St. Paul Johnson. In addition, St. Paul Johnson received assists from Luke Ranum, Brendan Zangs, Matthew Blees, and Jonah Kremer, who each chipped in one.

Greenway's offense operated below it season average. The Raiders put an average of 3.9 pucks into the net per game. Greenway found itself stymied offensively, and got off a mere eight shots against St. Paul Johnson's defense. The Raiders' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Greenway finished with 14 penalty minutes.

Samuel Moberg made eight saves for the Governors on eight shots. St. Paul Johnson incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Raiders' Mike LaDoux stopped 42 shots out of the 51 that he faced.
