The Grand Rapids Thunderhawks and the Cloquet Esko Carlton Lumberjacks skate to 5-5 (OT) tie

Grand Rapids trailed Cloquet Esko Carlton by three in the second period, but the Lumberjacks did not give up and the game ended in a 5-5 (OT) tie.

The Thunderhawks gave up more goals than its normal season average. Grand Rapids averages 2.3 goals allowed per game. With 36 shots on target during the contest, the Thunderhawks exceeded the 5.0 shots they average per game this year.

Grand Rapids was helped by Reid Holum, who grabbed two goals. Holum scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 7:59 into the second period to make the score 3-3. The Thunderhawks earned a power play opportunity when Ryan Lind was put in the box for boarding. Curtiss Simonson picked up the assist. Holum's next tally on the power play made the score 5-5 with 7:42 left in the third period. David Horsmann provided the assist. Grand Rapids additionally got points from Hunter Mackenhausen, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Ben Monley also scored for Grand Rapids. Other players who recorded assists for Grand Rapids were Shaffer Holum, who had two and Zach Frazier, Avery Peterson, Jonah Bischoff, and Jake Bischoff, who contributed one a piece.

Cloquet Esko Carlton's offense rang up 31 shots on Grand Rapids' net.

The Lumberjacks were helped by Karson Kuhlman, who had one goal and one assist. Kuhlman scored 11:07 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Cloquet Esko Carlton. Lind picked up the assist. Others who scored for Cloquet Esko Carlton included Weston Michaud, who had two and Derek Bloom and Tanner Robideaux, who scored one goal each. More assists for Cloquet Esko Carlton came via Drew Dincau, Beau Michaud, James Newgren, and Nate Niemi, who each chipped in one.

Hunter Shepard recorded 26 saves for the Thunderhawks. Grand Rapids incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Zack Strom made 31 saves for Cloquet Esko Carlton on 36 shots. The Lumberjacks totaled seven minutes in penalty time with one minor and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play.
