Hutchinson beats Eveleth-Gilbert 3-2 after comeback scare

The Hutchinson Tigers survived a determined comeback attempt by the Eveleth-Gilbert Golden Bears on the way to a 3-2 win.

A goal by Keegan Maceman put Hutchinson up 2-0 in the second period, but Eveleth-Gilbert pulled to within one on Zach Skelton's tally 10:19 into the third period.

Maceman was all over the ice for the Tigers, as he registered two goals in the win.

Hutchinson got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Cody Nielson also scored for Hutchinson. Other players who recorded assists for Hutchinson were Alec Westlund, who had one and Logan Goosen and Matthew Cowger, who contributed two a piece.

The Golden Bears forced the Tigers goalie Kellyn Buss to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

Eveleth-Gilbert also got a goal from Brett Kivela as well. More assists for Eveleth-Gilbert came via Mitchell Huffman and Nick Moe, who each chipped in two.

Buss recorded 29 saves for Hutchinson. The Tigers totaled 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors and two majors and went 1-for-2 on the power play. Derek Hirsch made 22 saves for Eveleth-Gilbert on 25 shots. The Golden Bears incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
