Duluth Denfeld squeaks by Roseville, 3-2Duluth Heritage Sports Arena Sat, Nov 24, 2012 The Duluth Denfeld Hunters gutted out a close 3-2 win against the Roseville Raiders. Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Levi Talarico secured the win for Duluth Denfeld with a goal in the third period. The Hunters got the win with help from a great game by Talarico, who had two goals and one assist. Talarico scored the first of his two goals at 7:49 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Alex Thomspon assisted on the tally. Talarico's next tally made the score 3-2 Duluth Denfeld with 13:49 left in the third period. Duluth Denfeld had gotten the advantage when Roseville's Riley McCann was sent off for hooking. Steven Maciver picked up the assist. The Raiders' power play was ineffective against the Hunters' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded. The 20 shots that Duluth Denfeld put on net surpassed the Hunters' average of 1.0 shot per game this season. Duluth Denfeld cashed in on power play opportunities, scoring two goals on three chances. Duluth Denfeld additionally got points from Thomspon, who also finished with one goal and one assist. In addition, Duluth Denfeld received assists from Trey Opack and Nick Thompson, who each chipped in one. Roseville's offense rang up 38 shots on the Hunters' net. The Raiders were helped by Ross Stecklein, who racked up one goal. Stecklein scored on the power play 13:51 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Roseville. A tripping penalty on Thomspon had put Roseville on the power play. Matt Irwin assisted on the tally. Roseville also got a goal from Nick Tilleson as well. More assists for Roseville came via Ryan Novotny, who had one. Wes Cook recorded 36 saves for Duluth Denfeld. The Hunters ended with 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. Zach Larson made 17 saves for the Raiders on 20 shots. Roseville incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
