Duluth Denfeld stifles International Falls' comeback, gains 6-4 victoryDuluth Heritage Sports Arena Sat, Dec 22, 2012 The Duluth Denfeld Hunters came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the International Falls Broncos, but did just enough to escape with a 6-4 victory. Duluth Denfeld led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Hunters' Reid Lemker's scored at 7:07 in the third period to put Duluth Denfeld up 5-2. Trey Opack and Levi Talarico provided the spark for the Hunters, combining for three goals and three assists. Opack had two goals and Talarico also added one goal and three assists. Duluth Denfeld's offense was clicking better than usual and put 39 shots on goal during the game, better than the 0.2 shots per game it averages. Duluth Denfeld additionally got points from Talarico, who also tallied one goal and three assists to lead the team in points and Lemker, who also registered one goal and two assists. Alex Thomspon also scored for Duluth Denfeld. In addition, Duluth Denfeld received assists from Travis Samuelson, Steven Maciver, and Matthew Mattila, who contributed one a piece. International Falls was led by Lucas Debenedet, who tallied two goals. Debenedet scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 7:05 into the first period to make the score 1-0 International Falls. The Broncos earned a power play opportunity when Opack was put in the box for high sticking. Jack Mellstrom picked up the assist. Debenedet's next tally on the power play made the score 2-1 International Falls with 9:22 left in the second period. Other players who recorded assists for International Falls were Kyler Schneider, who had one and Nick Anderson, who had two. Zach Thompson made 16 saves for the Hunters on 20 shots. Duluth Denfeld incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. The Broncos' Wesley Gunnerson stopped 33 shots out of the 39 that he faced.
