Mound-Westonka outlasts Delano/Rockford, 5-4

The game between the Mound-Westonka Whitehawks and the Delano/Rockford Tigers was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Mound-Westonka emerged with a 5-4 win.

The Whitehawks gained the winning advantage on a goal by Hunter Smith 5:10 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

Smith was all over the ice for Mound-Westonka, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Smith scored the first of his two goals at 2:02 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Mound-Westonka. Ben O Barsky picked up the assist. Smith's next tally made the score 5-4 Mound-Westonka with 14:50 left in the third period. Tommy Ewing provided the assist.

The defensemen of the Whitehawks were also effective in Delano/Rockford's zone, and came away with two goals. Mound-Westonka's offense was clicking better than usual and put 44 shots on goal during the game, better than the 0.9 shots per game it averages.

Mound-Westonka additionally got points from Charlie Curti, who also tallied one goal and three assists to lead the team in points and O Barsky, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Mound-Westonka also got a goal from Jack Brandstetter as well. In addition, Mound-Westonka received assists from Broten Togstad, who had one.

The Tigers managed to stay out of the box better than usual, racking up one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Delano/Rockford finished below its season average of 9.0 penalty minutes per game.

The Whitehawks' Andy Seats stopped 26 shots out of the 30 that he faced. Mound-Westonka ended with no penalties and went 2-for-1 on the power play. Brett Norling made 39 saves for the Tigers on 44 shots. Delano/Rockford registered zero goals on zero power play opportunities.
