Payne leads Orono, offense over Chaska, 5-1

The Orono Spartans' offense was sparked by Gavin Payne, as he ended with four assists in a 5-1 victory against the Chaska Hawks.

Chaska was unable to stop Orono from sending pucks towards the net, and the Spartans eventually piled up 43 shots on goal. Orono took advantage of the Hawks' penalties, tallying three goals off of five power play opportunities.

Orono additionally got points from Danny Willson, who also racked up two goals and one assist. Orono also had goals scored by Wil Horoshak, who had one and Joey Luedtke, who had two. Other players who recorded assists for Orono were Will LeNeave, Zach Grochowski, Sam Challgren, and Alex Gross, who each chipped in one.

Chaska's offense operated below it season average. The Hawks average 3.8 goals per game.

Chaska was led by Mitch Kirchoff, who scored the team's only goal. Kirchoff scored 3:01 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Orono. Eric Maki provided the assist.

Ryan Breon rejected 22 shots on goal for the Spartans. Orono incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Blake Jackson recorded 38 saves for the Hawks. Chaska totaled 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play.
